Meet Chef Judy, Our Founder

I’m Chef Judy, a second-generation Chinese American raised in NYC Chinatown. I trained in pastry at the French Culinary Institute in NYC, then spent years as a pastry chef and culinary school instructor.

In 2006, I founded Silk Cakes, a cake shop known for unique Asian-inspired flavor combinations. When the pandemic closed my decade-long business in 2020, I never imagined I’d get another chance to pursue my passion.

A simple grocery run down the cake mix aisle gave me my second chance. In 2024, I found Roots in Rice—Asian-inspired line of cake mixes.
